Rugged Overland Trailers For Off-Grid Adventure
There’s something about Utah. We’ve run across several small teams and family operations in Utah that make great trailers.
VORSHEER is another example located just down the road from Escapod.
Vorsheer is owned and operated by the McCloud family, who have three generations of experience in fabrication and manufacturing. Vorsheer began in a garage specializing in custom dog and truck beds. But in 2018, a customer commissioned the McClouds to build the first XOC and the rest is history.
What Impressed Us Most
Vorsheer trailers are rugged, well made and offer a whopping 23″ clearance. These are designed for off-road and built to overland.
It all starts with the frame. VORSHEER makes everything in house and takes great pride in their unusual frame construction. The front portion of the frame is rolled and welded to a 30° angle. The result is extra strength and a unique look. We also like how the frame is designed to protect every part of the trailer from hazard. (including the lights)
Another plus for off road adventures is how secure every latch and closure is. Compression latches will keep your gear from moving on bumpy roads. And weather stripping seals each compartment. This keeps out dust and mud in the most severe conditions.
Three Trailer Styles
VORSHEER XOC and XOC-R Trailers
XOC is their most popular trailer. It stands for Extreme Overland Camper and comes in two styles. The standard XOC has an angular design and the XOC-R has a more classic teardrop shape with rounded corners. Both have similar features which we will dig into.
VORSHEER XER Camper
Vorsheer also offers a smaller trailer designed for expeditions called the XER (Extreme Expedition Rig). The XER has no cabin but you can sleep on the roof – designed for shorter fair weather trips.
VORSHEER XRT Ultralight Trailer
Lastly, Vorsheer offers the XRT or Extreme Road Tourer. This is a small, lightweight (under 300 lb.) teardrop style camper that can be towed by any vehicle, even a motorcycle.
Here is a comparison chart of the different campers.
