Best Outdoor Pizza Oven Kits – Ooni/Uuni Review

Outdoor tabeltop with Ooni pro and Ooni 3 portable Italian pizza ovens

These Portable Wood-Fired Pizza Ovens are Perfect for Any Outdoor Adventure

Ooni makes the best portable wood-fired ovens. Period.

They are small, lightweight, simple to set up and easy to store.

Which means, you can make your own great pizza at home in your backyard, or take it on the road. Ideal for RVs, camping, tailgating, beach parties, the park, and more.

In 2012, Uuni was an idea that caught fire with a Kickstarter campaign. Pizza lovers and co-founders, Kristian Tapaninaho and Darina Garland introduced the world to the first small, affordable pellet fired ovens.

Now Ooni tabletop ovens are available all over the world.

To settle any confusion: The original name was Uuni, but was often misspelled and mispronounced. On July 17, 2018 they officially changed the name to Ooni.

Great Homemade Pizza and More

The secret to great pizza is “hot and fast“.

Temperature is the key. Conventional ovens normally top out around 500° Fahrenheit (260° Celsius). This may work for heating a frozen pizza but just doesn’t cut it for fresh Italian pizza. And, while we’d all love a built-in brick pizza oven, they cost a small fortune and are hard to carry.

So, in steps Ooni with the perfect solution. Small and lightweight, all Ooni models get “hot as hell”. That’s 932° F (500° C) to be exact.

Once up to heat, you can turn out a piping hot Neopolitan-style pizza in just 60 seconds flat.

Before we go on it is important to note that these portable ovens do more than just cook delicious pizza.

Ooni also sells custom sized cast iron accessories so you are only limited to your imagination.

Accessories & Fire Tools

Ooni offers some great equipment to go along with their dead simple outdoor ovens. You can see some add-ons below or start with a bundle from Ooni, which has everything you need to get started.

Wood Pellets (Fire Wood)

The easiest way to stock up on natural fuel is to buy direct. Ooni sells hardwood pellets that are 100% oak, sourced directly from US forests. They light easily, burn efficiently and produce very little ash waste. (Just like the Portable Fireside Outdoor Pop Up Fire Pit!)

Pizza Peel

If you plan on making pizzas you are going to want a pizza peel. Since the inside of the oven is so freakin hot (~932° F), you don’t want to reach inside.

The pizza peel is the tool you use to slide the pizza in and out.

Storage Covers

One of our favorite features of the Ooni ovens is that they travel well. That’s why we recommend them for RVers, campers, and anyone who is out for adventure.

In your own backyard or at the campsite the Ooni is easy to handle. The chimney pops off and then you can either use a carry case or storage cover.
