Best RV Vacuum – Buyers Guide

Buying the wrong equipment can be frustrating. To save you time and money we have a list of things to consider before you invest in a designated RV vacuum.

Size and Weight

RVs are quite small and often don’t come with much floor space compared to a house. For this reason, there is no need to get the largest vacuum on the market.

It will often take a matter of minutes to vacuum your entire RV, so a large vacuum is not necessary.

Weight is always something to consider because it affects gas consumption, wear and tear, etc. But there are some good options that only weigh 2-4 lbs.

Following on from the previous point, you don’t need a large capacity for an RV vacuum.

The smaller the capacity, the smaller the vacuum. And overall size has priority. Most people don’t vacuum that frequently on the road, so don’t worry about sacrificing capacity.

It will require more empties but we find this evens out with lower use than a home vacuum.

Where will your vacuum be stored inside of your RV? We recommend considering this even before you make the purchase. Some vacuums, but not all, can be attached to a wall. This is a great option if you have the wall space.

Another option in some mobile homes is a cleaning supply closet. But this may not be an option.  Under the bed? Every RV is different so you’ll have to measure your own space.

Many of our recommendations either fold or come apart for a very small profile. Being storage-friendly can be a big plus.

Cord Length or Cordless

RVs tend to have fewer outlets than a house, and some will be used to power important appliances. If this is the case in your RV, you’ll want to be aware of cord length. The longer the better depending on overall RV size.

Some vacuums are cordless which is great for RVs because you don’t need to worry about tugging on cords and potentially knocking valuables over. However, if you don’t have the means to opt for a cordless vacuum, make sure that the corded version can reach all areas of the RV without hassle.

Cord length is a trade off. A longer cord also takes up more space. It’s best to be aware and match your needs. Whether you choose a cordless, long cord, or a short cord depends on your personal preference and situation.

A few vacuum cleaners that we mentioned offer different modes that can be very beneficial in an RV.

Handheld hoovers are easy to use in tight spots that other types of vacuums cannot reach, but stick vacuums can clean the floor much quicker than handheld vacuums.

Having the option for both a stick and a handheld vacuum can be very beneficial, particularly when they don’t take up any more storage space. If you want to use two or more different types of vacuum, just make sure that they can be stacked together to avoid taking up too much room in your RV.

Chances are that you don’t spend as much time in your RV as you do in your home. For this reason, you don’t need to spend as much money on an RV vacuum as you would for your house vacuum.

Your budget should be much lower than if you were looking for something to clean an entire house.

In some cases you might be looking for a vacuum cleaner that you can be used both inside your house as well as in your RV. In this case we’d advise going for quality and expanding your budget.
