And what is it about Grand Junction, Colorado?

It is home to more than one of today’s best small trailer makers. Similar to another one of our favorites, Vintage Overland, Timberleaf is honing their craft as a premium hand made trailer shop. (And calls Grand Junction home.)

Founder and owner, Kevin Molick, has a background as a designer and finish cabinet maker. But he wanted to apply his experience to “provide comfort on the road for those seeking outdoor adventure.”

The endeavor began in the Spring of 2016 to enthusiastic reviews and raving fans.

Molick won’t compromise in search of vintage details. His obsession with getting it right often means the parts have to be sourced or built from scratch. But each choice makes all the difference.

Expert craftsmanship and quality parts throughout – these are built to last. (How many trailers have heirloom quality furniture details like dovetail joints?) And that’s just a taste of what Timberleaf packs into these efficient campers.

Timberleaf Teardrop Trailers – Review

Great effort has been made to capture the classic mid-century teardrop shape and vintage style. In staying true, the challenge was to make these comfortable, functional and updated for today’s adventures. Mission accomplished!

Timberleaf offers teardrop trailers in two sizes, The Classic and Pika.

Both are available with your choice of three different suspension packages: classic, all road, and off road. And each base model has tons of additional options.

So, no matter where you want to go, there is a configuration for you.

Each trailer is made to order and Timberleaf will help guide you through the design process. Current lead time is 4-5 months. Financing is available. And if you’d like to test one first, you can arrange to rent a Timberleaf trailer here.

The Classic

True to its name, but The Classic redefines the shape. What we like here is two doors, two windows, and one large skylight. Easy access and plenty of light to expand the space. (Custom shades if you’d prefer to be cozy and private.)

Galley Kitchen

Another stand out feature is the galley. Rarely do you see one that uses every inch to it’s fullest. Even the water tank is stored beneath the cabin, providing more usable space.

Pika

The Pika Teardrop is named after the American Pika, a small mammal, (rabbit-like) that bounds around in the alpine terrain of the Rocky Mountains.

Pika has all the same craftsmanship and attention to detail as the Classic, but it is smaller, lighter, and more nimble. (Space does limit some amenities.)

But…with less space than its big brother, there are some compromises in the galley.

You can choose between one of these:

• Slide out fridge space which holds a Dometic CFX-135 12 Volt fridge (stays cold for days)
• Slide out shelf holds a Yeti 35 liter cooler (or similar)
• Built in cabinet space storage (for those who want to keep the cooler in the tow vehicle)
